NEW Kebele CommunityCo-operative Cafe vegan restaurant, 14 Robertson Road, Easton, Bristol, BS5 6JY. Tel: 0117-939 9469. Open: Sat 11.00-14.00, Sun 18.00-21.00. Activist social centre has a vegan brunch on Saturday mornings (suggested donation £2.50, and 50p for drinks) and vegan dinner on Sunday evenings (suggested donation £2, £1 for pudding, 50p drinks). Completely volunteer led, chefs take it in turns. Some Sunday evenings include talks or videos. Arrive early to be in time for all three courses (or sometimes no starter just a big main), which come out one after the other. Get there early as they can get very busy, so if you turn up at 7.30pm on a Sunday you will get there in the middle of main course or towards the back of the queue for main course and miss starter. At 8.15 you'll miss starter and main course but be in time for pud. Portions are very generous. Food is mainly sourced locally, usually organic. Come round 4pm if you’d like to help preparing. Stoke’s first vegetarian café and coffee lounge was started by a local young vegan couple. All food is vegan and extraordinarily good value and they are big on local and Fairtrade. Lower floor coffee lounge, and an upper floor dining area with a small library. Soup £1.95 such as Thai vegetable or leek and potato. Wraps £2.95 include falafel salad with Thai sweet chilli; chilli and coriander; Mexican mince with hummus. Panini £3.25 such as spixy Mexican veggie mince with hummus, salad and nachos; jalapeno pepper; chargrilled veg; all-day breakfast sausage, hash browns, beans and mushrooms. Specials £3.25-4.25 include lasagna with garlic bread and salad, pie and mash with peas, chargrilled burger with fries, pasta flatbread, Thai curry.
